Rubies are found in all colours of red, with the darker rich colours being rarer than a diamond in some cases and are second hardest to a diamond on the Mohs scale at 9 with diamond being a 10. Part of the same family as the sapphire, and only when the gem is red it becomes a ruby. Mined from several locations including Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and India.
